Long Live webOS

HP announced today that they are giving up on all the webOS hardware and exploring the ways of spinning off their PC business. Talking about pivoting ... it is a $1.2B one, at least. Try beating that.

On the bright side, having worked with webOS and Enyo for some time, I can say that it is truly a great piece of engineering and a great platform that will likely resurface somewhere at some point in the future. Maybe HP can do us all a favor and open source it?

It is a platform that allows one to build a native mobile application in HTML/JavaScript, which is unique in the industry. A lot of the code that we developed for the TouchPad is now finding its way into our new webapp.

Stay tuned!

Response to MightyMeeting for TouchPad

The TouchPad is an amazing platform that signals arrival of the post-laptop phase in mobile business computing. MightyMeeting was thrilled to launch the first-to-market web conferencing app for TouchPad and the first application in the MightyMeeting family to include integrated audio conferencing. MightyMeeting has been well received from the HP community and we are excited to report great feedback!

Richard Kerris, vice president of webOS Worldwide Developer Relations, HP - "MightyMeeting offers mobile professionals an excellent cloud-based service that takes advantage of webOS capabilities. MightyMeeting integrates with the webOS contact and email applications, and with webOS multitasking, users can host a web conference while checking their calendars, sending IM messages or looking up a contact."

VentureBeat: " (MightyMeeting) takes advantage of the Touchpad’s webOS platform. Synergy and multitasking are often referenced when talking about the Touchpad. For MightyMeeting, synergy references the ability to sync all contact information for easy meeting set-up."
